Description of the contents of the Machining operations archive

The Machining operations archive allows you to code all machining operations applicable to profiles and accessories, defining their description, color, cost, labour time, machine time, workcenter, variables, application conditions, and print options.

The window consists of a search and filter section, a list of archived machining operations, a function button bar, and the detail panel of the selected machining operation.

Filter and search section

The upper part of the window contains the fields that allow you to filter the machining operations list.

  • Group File:tastoc.png: allows you to filter machining operations according to their group.
  • Machining sheet File:tastoc.png: this field has a button connected to the Machining sheets archive. The function of this field is to allow selection in the machining operations list by machining sheet.
  • Profile File:tastoc.png: allows you to filter machining operations according to the associated profile.
  • Keyword: allows you to search for or filter machining operations according to an identification keyword.
  • Show description: if enabled, also displays the machining operation description in the list.
  • Order list items: if enabled, orders the machining operations list according to the criterion provided by the program.

Machining operations list

The left side of the window shows the list of machining operations present in the archive.

Each machining operation is identified by:

  • a numeric code or name;
  • a reference color;
  • an associated description;
  • any images or graphic previews linked to the machining operation.

Selecting a machining operation in the list allows its data to be displayed and modified in the detail panel on the right.

Archive function buttons

The buttons on the toolbar allow you to manage the archive records:

  • File:+.png: allows you to insert a new machining operation.
  • File:-.png: allows you to delete the selected machining operation.
  • File:modifica.png: allows you to modify the selected machining operation.
  • File:=.png: allows you to copy an existing machining operation.

  • File:tastocataloghi.png: allows you to view the catalog linked to the machining operations, if present.
  • File:Tastoeliminariferimenti.png: allows you to remove from the machining operations all references to unrecognized profiles.
  • File:tastoexcel.png: allows you to view the selected machining operations and their data in an Excel table.

Machining operation creation and modification panel

The detail panel allows you to define all the technical, economic, and operational data of the machining operation.

Main data

  • Name: this is the name or identification code of the machining operation.
  • Desc. (Description): this is the description of the machining operation.
  • Automatic selection: if enabled, allows the program to automatically select the machining operation according to the specified conditions.
  • Group File:tastoc.png: allows you to assign the machining operation to a group.
  • Machining sheet File:tastoc.png: the action in this field is determined by pressing the button that opens the link to the Machining sheet selection window.
  • Position sheet File:tastoc.png: allows you to link the machining operation to a position sheet.
  • Keyword: code or parameter used to identify or recall the machining operation.
  • Color File:tastomenutendina.png: in label printing, in addition to the possibility of defining a reference code for the machining operation, the user can assign a color to the machining operation. This color will be shown in the label printout, allowing easier and faster identification of the machining operation and of the department or workcenter where it must be carried out.
  • Sorting: allows you to define the display or management order of the machining operation. If set to auto, the order is managed automatically by the program.

Cost section

  • Exclude from parts: enabling this field excludes the machining operation from material time and cost calculations.
  • Cost: this is the cost of the machining operation.
  • To File:tastomenutendina.png: this is the unit of measurement to which the machining operation cost is linked, for example cost per piece, per meter, per kg, etc.
  • Min. purchase: minimum purchase value of the machining operation.
  • Labour time: this is the amount of time required to perform the machining operation.
  • To File:tastomenutendina.png: this is the unit of measurement to which the labour time of the machining operation is linked, for example time per piece, per meter, per kg, etc.
  • Min. purchase: minimum purchase value of the machining operation.
  • Machine Seconds: this is the time used by the machine to perform the machining operation.
  • To File:tastomenutendina.png: this is the unit of measurement to which the time used by the machine in the machining operation is linked, for example time per piece, per meter, per kg, etc.
  • Min. purchase: minimum purchase value of the machining operation.

The development of the machining operation costs and the time linked to it can take place as follows:

  • Typology factor: factor linked to the typology used for calculating the machining operation.
  • Multiplier: multiplies the typology factor by the specified value.
  • Level: indicates the level used to establish which machining operations the multiplier must be applied to.

If the operator sets the machining operation cost and does not define the time required to perform it, the program will develop the amount according to the cost and the quantity of machining operations. For example: if the “hole for wall regulator” costs €1 and 5 are required, the total cost of this machining operation will be €5.

If, instead, the operator sets the time required to perform the machining operation without setting the cost, the program will develop the amount based on the Workshop Cost in the company data and on the time set in the machining operation.

  • Margin rate File:tastomenutendina.png: allows you to link a Margin rate to the machining operation.

Workcenter and operation data

  • Workcenter File:tastomenutendina.png: in this field it is possible to enter the name of the workcenter where the machining operation is carried out. As with saw machines, there is a Workcenters archive where the workcenter name that is shown in the machining operations archive must be entered.
  • Operation: in this field it is possible to enter the operation associated with the machining operation, without specifying the profile.
  • Op. alt. side: in this field it is possible to enter the operation associated with the machining operation to be carried out on the opposite side of the profile, without specifying the profile.
  • Barcode: it is possible to enter the barcode of the machining operation.
Note N.B: It is necessary to use this function when using a workcenter whose software does not recognize the same machining operation on different profiles. Matching the machining operation directly to the profiles therefore allows the workcenter software to decode the machining operation on each profile.
  • Dodge machining: there may be cases where several machining operations fall at the same point of the profile. To avoid this, by enabling this field the program will avoid calculating at the same distance the machining operation located in the same position. If enabled, the fields relating to distances can be modified.
  • Minimum distance: minimum distance between two machining operations.
  • Min. edge distance: minimum distance from the profile ends below which the machining operation is removed.
  • Lhs encumbrance / Rhs encumbrance: these fields are linked to the previous Dodge machining option. In fact, for the program to dodge the overlapping machining operation, an encumbrance value of the machining operation must be defined.
  • Condition: field where an application condition for the machining operation can be indicated.

Machining operation application options

  • From the bottom: by enabling this field, the operator makes the program use the profile always measured from the bottom as the reference for developing the dimensions.
  • From the right: the machining operation dimension reference is considered from the right. In this way, any errors deriving from cutting operations are compensated. This function will be used by the machine if it is equipped with a measuring device capable of correcting the original profile dimensions.
  • On top: indicates to the program that the machining operation must be performed using the head of the profile as reference.
  • Profiling: indicates that the machining operation is linked to profiling management.
  • Generate sequence: enabling this field gives the program the input to generate a machining operation with sequential coordinates. After enabling it, the next operation must be to create a machining operation with the same name followed by the SEQ parameter.
  • Angled machining: enables management of the machining operation with an angled reference.
  • Standard face: indicates that the machining operation is applied on the standard face of the profile.
  • Allow multiples: allows multiple applications of the same machining operation.
  • One per job: limits the application of the machining operation to one occurrence per job.
  • Differentiate ID codes: allows the identification codes linked to the machining operation to be differentiated, when required by the configuration.

Print options

  • Show in diagrams: enabling this field shows the value of the machining operation variables in the typology diagram printout.
  • Show in nodes: allows the machining operation to be shown in the node printout.
  • Show on cutting lists: allows the machining operation to be shown in the cutting lists.

Machining references and color

  • Print Machinings Ref.: setting this field by entering a reference code makes the program add this code in the label printout, providing workers with information on the route of the profile through the departments.
Note N.B: This reference can be printed in the cutting lists if the Machining ref. field is enabled in the Technical print setup and is useful in the case of machines that do not include label printing
.
  • Color File:tastomenutendina.png: this field is linked to a list of colors to which the machining operation can be associated. Associating a color with the machining operation is useful if you want to display the positions of the machining operations in the Design Sheet and in the typology diagram printout from the Design Sheet itself.
  • Workcenter profiles: allows you to print the label reference in the profile list of the workcenter.

The Variables button File:Variabili.png

Pressing this button opens the Machining variables window.

  • Var. (Variable): the variable identification code is usually X.

When choosing the variable identification code, it is advisable to choose the character X for all machining operations. The reason for this choice is not only to simplify variable setting, but also to allow the display of the position of the machining operations applied to the typology to be enabled in the Design Sheet, using the File:tastol.png button, located among the buttons of the Show section in the Design Sheet.

As can be seen in the image on the side, the typology shows, on the sides affected by machining operations, several colored points indicating the exact position and type of machining operation. In the case shown above, green and yellow for the holes of the roller catch strikes and the cremone bolt, and red for the slots.

This display can also be shown in print, as shown in the example on the side.

Field selection
  • Desc. (Description): description of the variable.
  • Value File:tastomenutendina.png: pressing the button in the field opens a drop-down list with a series of choices relating to the fields to which the variable can be applied.
  • Text: this function tells the program that the variable of this machining operation is represented by text.
  • Unit of measurement File:tastomenutendina.png: this is the unit of measurement of the variable.


The Icon button File:Tastoicona.png

Pressing this button allows you to insert an image to be linked to the machining operation, which will then be shown by the program in the printouts. This may be an image taken directly from the catalog by scanner, or it may be drawn by the operator. After pressing this button, the icon management window opens.

In Opera, image loading and management are the same for all archives, namely Profiles, Accessories, and Machining operations; for this reason, see the profile sectional drawing paragraph of this Manual.

If the program CAM is used to design and generate machining operations, the image is created by the program in DXF format.

The Notes button File:Tastonote.png

  • Title File:tastoc.png: title of the note.
  • Size: allows you to size the note space.
  • Background File:tastomenutendina.png: in this field it is possible to choose the note background color.
  • Text File:tastomenutendina.png: in this field it is possible to choose the note text color.
  • Show with machinings: if selected, shows this note only when machining display is active.
  • Show position:

Opens the window for managing messages to be associated with the machining operation.
